Endowment Size Transition Process

When an endowment has a significant increase in size, our firm immediately consults with the foundation to re-examine its investment policy statement to determine the most effective investment strategy appropriate for the new investment levels. Areas to review include: the asset allocation model; spending commitment levels; and liquidity of investments. Portfolio diversification is an important step for an endowment that doubles in size.

A larger endowment generally affords an opportunity to negotiate a lower pricing fee with separate managers. A higher value portfolio may allow access to additional separate account managers (or strategies) that have higher investment minimums.
